Lessons from a preschool lunch table

For those moms who are always wondering what is really popular at the school lunch table, I am sharing the lessons I learn during preschool lunch. There are not any kids more honest than preschoolers.

1. Lunchable cheese is really, really gross
2. Dessert should really come first
3. Lunch meat is supposed to be microwaved
4. Capri Suns are AWESOME, especially if you can do your own straw
5. Eating takes a lot of focus...almost too much

I am sure that there will be more to come. After all, I spend 45 minutes a day with these precious little munchkins.

We've added words

It seems like there is a new word added to Karrington's vocabulary everyday. Today, instead of just rubbing her hand on her chest gesturing "please", she was also saying "pees." This morning she greeted me with "shoo-wee" in reference to her diaper. She can also say "poo poo" (we've definitely taught her all of the important words). Bear, dog, no, yes, ball, bah e ball (basketball), and hippo are just a few of her ever growing vocabulary. She's a pretty smart little chic, wink!

Karrington got this sweet swing for her birthday. It has been sitting in our living room until last week when Big Daddy (Anton's dad) came to visit and took some time out of our busy schedule to hang it on the lone tree in the backyard.

Into the Tub She Goes

Today, Karrington climbed into the tub. ALL BY HERSELF! I was getting ready and noticed that she was lifting her leg up in efforts to get it over the side of the tub and climb in. She was unsuccessful a couple of times, so I ignored her thinking that it wasn't likely to happen. Boy was I wrong. My first clue that she was having success was her little giggle. As I turned around, I noticed that she had successfully lifted her leg over the tub and was ready to give full committal. As the other leg lifted off of the ground, her body toppled over and into the tub. She sure was proud of herself. I'm sorry to say that I don't have a picture of this lovely event. Maybe next time.

One of my favorites

This is my absolute favorite of all of the pictures that I took this summer.

We took Marlon and Jan (Anton's parents) to Cagel's Steakhouse the other night. They have a great little outside area set up with a windmill and little play house. All in all, a great opportunity for a picture op. As we walked around after dinner, I pulled out my camera and got a great photo of daddy and daughter. I will definitely need to put this in black and white, blow it up and frame it for our house.

Bye Bye Pounds

Several weeks ago I blogged about going on a detox from carbs and all things processed. It is working. I feel a million times better and 10 pounds lighter. It is great to get on the scale and see those numbers going down!!!

Whirlwind

Today, I realized that it has been a while since I posted. I logged into my account and noticed that there were several (over 10) posts of "blogs I follow" that I had not read. Not only do I get negative points in the "super" blogger category, but I also get negative points in the blog follower catergory. What a mess!

I could mention my pile of excuses...so I think I will.

School started yesterday. This means that for the past week+ I have been in inservice and training getting ready for the grandios moment. One of the medications that I am on for my heart was doubled, making me doubly exhausted (it slows my heart wayyyyy down). Anton's parents drove/flew in on Wednesday night. We are still trying to get settled in to our house. (My bedroom is far from being settled). AND (though this is a HUGE blessing, it is still work) someone just gave us 8+ boxes of little girl clothes sizes 24M-6 year that need to be sorted into keep and give back piles. WHEW!

Needless to say, I am looking forward to things settling down just a bit.

Walking Like a Big Girl

After getting her dressed today, I told Karrington that it was time to go. She got up, in her new shiny Nikes, and walked to the garage door. WOW! I was shocked. She knew exactly what to do. As I opened the garage door, I prompted her to follow me. She seemed somewhat shocked, but followed my lead. She walked all the way to the car and waited at the back door to be loaded. I was totally impressed. She is so grown up. Pretty crazy how quickly they grow and change.

1 Year Old Check Up

Today was Karrington's 1 year old checkup. It was much more detailed than her previous checkups. As usual, the nurse took her height, weight, and head circumference. All were great and placed her in the 84th percentile in all three categories. Good thing, otherwise there could be problems. Next they checked her heart and lungs, nose, ears, eyes, and mouth. All good! While checking her mouth, the doctor verified my suspicions of there being another tooth on its way. The doctor checked her stomach and legs, pupil dilation and ability to follow a light (which I'm assuming is her eye sight). Overall, she is a very healthy little girl. She did great through the whole appointment. She sat patiently while they were listening to her heart and lungs and even opened her mouth for the doctor when it was time to check her mouth. The doctor finished up the exam and four shots later we were on our way.

Bottom's Up To Uncle Geoffrey

Or Uncle G-Dub, as we all prefer to call him. The G-Dub nickname was given in efforts to alleviate the temptation to call him Geoff, which he absolutely hates. Geoffrey is my baby brother and is a great guy to have around. Geoffrey has saved me in numerous instances, whether I need a handyman, babysitter, or midnight ice cream run. I can count on ole G-Dub to get the job done.
When we moved from the Pacific Northwest to Texas, some of our furniture had to disassembled in order to get it into the truck. Among the disassemble furniture was our dining table. When it came time to reassemble, Anton took on the task. After a few minutes (though he would claim that it was longer), he became extremely frustrated and decided that it wasn't fixable. As he was carrying it out to the dumpster, I was on the phone with Geoffrey calling for help. A few moments later, Geoffrey walked in with a drill and a mission and not long after that, we had a fully assembled dining table.
We are definitely blessed to have Geoffrey in our lives and love him dearly!

Bottom's Up to Uncle Robby

Robby is the middle boy in my family. He, like Cody, is always good for a laugh. In fact, there have been numerous times when Karrington has been upset and Robby has walked into the room and done something silly to make her laugh.

Robby has made sure to be present (even if its in the waiting room) for every minute of the births of his nephews and niece. He is extremely dependable and prides himself on being an excellent uncle. His goal, at all gift giving celebrations, is to give the 'best/most loved gift'. It's pretty cute, how he gets so excited to see his nephews and niece play with their new toys. He is very thoughtful in his gift giving too. At Karrington's first birthday, he got her a toy that would help her in her walking endeavors. (It's a lion and, like all other animal toys, we gave him a name...Rudy or Lionel...depends on who you talk to.)

Robby is a great uncle and we are very blessed to have him involved in our lives. We love you Uncle Robby!!

Heres to Uncle Dominic

Or Uncle Dom as we prefer to say. Dominic is Anton's one and only brother. They are three years apart, but at times you would think that they were born joined at the hip. They are very close. Dominic is a great uncle and I am sure will come across very intimidating to whatever boy comes around our house (when that time comes, of course).
When we lived closer to Dominic and Gretchen, he was, without hesitation, our first phone call if something needed to be fixed.  Too bad we don't live closer, I really need someone to go garage sale-ing with me. He is an excellent garage sale shopper and prides himself on knowing all of the good deals. I can't even count all the times I have heard him say, "Oh, I got that at a garage sale. I talked them down to..." That's my kind of guy, out for a good deal. It has been a huge blessing to have Dominic in our lives. He's been a great support over the years and we know that he would be available to help us at the drop of a hat. We love you Dom!

And here's to Uncle Cody

Check out his blog here

Cody is the oldest boy in my family. We are very close in age and have always had a great friendship. As evident by the picture, we can always count on Cody for a laugh. Cody has been a great companion over the years. Turns out, he's not only a great brother, but he's a great uncle too.
Cody is a man of God. He is faithful and hears from the Lord on a regular basis. It has been a blessing to walk through life with him as my brother. We have gone through the good, the bad and the ugly and today I can honestly say that we are better people for it.
Thank you Cody for being an awesome brother and uncle. We are very blessed to have you and your family in our lives.

Toast to the Uncles

Copying something my SIL (sister-in-law) did on her blog, That Mama Gretchen, a couple of months ago, each day this week we will be honoring the great uncles in Karrington's life. Anton and I were both raised with only brothers, so there are lots of uncles to look out and stand up for our precious little one. Monday will be my brother Cody, Tuesday will be Anton's brother Dominic, Wednesday will be my brother Robby, and last but definitely not least will be Geoffrey on Thursday.
